STAGE TWO: Scene Study I - Character Action into Transaction

STAGE TWO: SCENE STUDY I

CHARACTER ACTION INTO TRANSACTION

COURSE CONTENT

STAGE TWO: Scene Study I (Character Action into Transaction) will focus on helping you, the professional actor, develop a Psychological Profile and cohesive Thought Process for the character. This will provide you with a solid foundation to create the most authentic and potent characters possible. These sessions offer the actor a step-by-step process of unique, effective, and time-efficient ways to research, analyse and perform a character. This approach to acting continues to build upon the work accomplished in STAGE ONE: The Meisner Intensive Workshop and leads to an organic and vibrant exchange between scene partners as they engage in a constant flow of interactive listening and immediate response. The result is the creation of a consistent and genuine connection with the emotional life of the character.

We will accomplish this by helping you to:

  • Create a comprehensive but stream-lined approach to investigating the background of both the play and character so that you can get the most out of your research.
  • Create a comprehensive but stream-lined approach to “actioning” your scene or monologue through the Task/Tactic Paradigm. This process will offer you a practical and productive way of creating a justified and cohesive Thought Process for your character.
  • Identify the character's Archetype as a way of determining the character's essential patterns of behaviour. These patterns of behaviour will help you  select and play the best Tactics possible moment-to-moment.
  • Identify and be done to by points of Discovery and points of Decision throughout the scene that motivate your tactical choices.
  • Create an authentic interaction of character through exploring improvised games from Stanislavski's, Method of Physical Actions.
  • Create a series of impulse-driven improvisations and text-based rehearsal methods designed to help you shift interactively and without hesitation from one Tactic to the next in the pursuit of your Scene Task.

Upon completion of Stage Two, you will be ready to move on to STAGE THREE: Character Transformation.
