Our Six-Day Meisner Intensive Week will provide the professional actor with an opportunity to explore new and exciting ways to create truthful characters through Meisner’s iconic Repetition Game with Independent Activity. Rather than doing the scene, as some actors do, professional actors will learn how to let the scene do them.
 

This key principle is the foundation of SB Acting Studio's Immediate Acting Technique and is the first port of call in our Actor's Process Course.

Meisner Technique is designed to help the actor consistently be present and available through a process of active listening followed by a spontaneous and justified response. By continually and instinctively working off one’s scene partner, the actor can create an organic and immediate exchange of dialogue and action. This symbiotic exchange not only deepens an actor’s awareness and understanding of their character's needs and desires, but also facilitates their ability to make specific and definitive choices that provoke creative responses. It is this release into instinctual and immediate choices, stimulated from another person in the given moment, that captures truly authentic human behaviour.

Actors move through the Repetition Game by improvising scenarios with progressively increasing Stakes. As they progress, actors will divest themselves of inhibitors, as they give in to their imaginative impulses. By trusting these impulses, the actor will develop a sustainable and evolving creative state, gaining access to the richness of the character’s inner life. Access to this creative state inevitably allows the actor to generate the most exhilarating and powerful of performances.
