Our Approach

Our courses offer professional actors a unique opportunity to create a variety of characters through a concise yet comprehensive process we call Immediate Acting. This process equips actors with practical techniques that apply across the entire acting journey—from initial casting through to final performance. When combined with their own instincts, Immediate Acting enables actors to make confident, well-informed choices in the creation of compelling and authentic characters.

Our teaching philosophy encourages actors to approach each learning experience with the Zen principle of always a beginner,  engaging with every role "as if for the first time."   This mindset fosters openness, commitment, and enjoyment, enabling actors to create characters of authenticity, originality, and distinction.

Flexibility for Working Actors

We understand the realities of a professional actor’s schedule and the need to respond to short-notice work opportunities. Wherever possible, we accommodate changing commitments within our structured programme of tutorials and classes.

Blended Learning Model

Our courses combine online learning with live, in-person classes, with a strong emphasis on small-group and individual tutoring. This blended approach offers professional actors a flexible, efficient, and highly effective learning experience.

Leadership and Experience

Our founder, Stephen C. Buckwald, is one of the most experienced acting teachers in the UK, with over 40 years of teaching across the UK, USA, and Europe. He has worked with numerous professional actors who have gone on to highly successful and award winning careers in the performing arts. His Immediate Acting Technique draws on a wide range of insightful and innovative approaches to character preparation and performance, offering actors a uniquely informed perspective on the acting process.

WHAT COURSES DO WE OFFER THE PROFESSIONAL ACTOR?

THE ACTOR'S PROCESS: IMMEDIATE ACTING TECHNIQUE

The Actor's Process is our main course and is delivered in four progressive stages, combining intensive live in-person training with structured online preparation. Each stage builds on the last, guiding the professional actor from foundational techniques, such as the Meisner Repetition Game, through to full character embodiment.

STAGE ONE: The Meisner Intensive Workshop

A six-day intensive (Monday - Saturday, 10:00 - 17:00) delivered 
Live & In-Person Only

Exact Dates: TBA, but will commence in June 2026

The first pillar of The Actor's Process, this workshop focuses on Meisner’s iconic Repetition Game with Independent Activity.  This game encourages actors to move beyond "doing the scene" and allow themselves to let the "scene do them."

STAGE TWO: Character Preparation

Seven to Eight weekly online sessions

Dates and times for all online sessions will be negotiated between tutor and actors

 
Both scene partners attend these two-hour sessions where both actors will develop a detailed Psychological Profile and cohesive Thought Process for their character using Immediate Acting Technique; a clear, time-efficient process for script and character analysis.

STAGE THREE: Character Action into Transaction

Two weekends of intensive live classes (Thursday–Saturday, 10:00am–5:00pm)

Exact Dates: TBA

Scenes developed online in STAGE TWO: Character Preparation are put on their feet, applying Immediate Acting principles to activate character interaction through active listening stimulating an immediate and compelling response.

STAGE FOUR: Character Transformation

Two weekends of intensive live classes (Thursday–Saturday, 10:00am–5:00pm)

Exact Dates: TBA

This stage focuses on psycho-physical and vocal transformation into character, integrating acting, voice, and movement work with the psychological foundations developed in earlier stages.

Delivered either Online or In-Person

Dates: January 2026 onwards by negotiation

Bespoke coaching aimed at helping the professional actor with upcoming auditions, self-tapes, show reels, rehearsal preparation, or specific acting issues they would like to address.
